At the Mannheim location, pfenning logistics operates a warehouse on behalf of a client from the automotive industry that goes well beyond the function of a pure trans-shipment centre. Rather, pfenning logistics runs a concrete, production preparation facility here. The client, a business from the bus construction sector, manufactures various bus models in a European production network. In this case, pfenning logistics independently purchases the necessary base materials from across Europe and prepares them for production. For example, the raw profiles that are used in body construction are sawed to the appropriate length and spot welded - right in the warehouse. Such a specialisation goes well beyond the service spectrum of a regular logistics service provider.

Of course, the classic warehouse business is not neglected in this project. For current as well as older bus models, all necessary spare parts are held ready on over 2,500 m2 of floorspace. Inventory turns over completely on a monthly basis; some 150 tons of various steel materials are delivered "just in time" to the bus plant every day.
