Pfenning active in Romania
Food logistics provider expands with its customers in the East / by Elisabeth Kapell
LZ|NET. The food logistics provider Pfenning expands in Eastern Europe. Since April this year, the Viernheim-based company is active in Romania on behalf of a German trade enterprise. The presence is set to be extended.
In April 2005, the food logistics company started a subsidiary in Bucharest. Until now, the company supplies chain stores in the Eastern European country on behalf of a large German trade company. The experts in logistics do not want to give away the name.
Pfenning has already been operating a subsidiary in Hungary for the last ten years. "We are approached by our customers and we travel abroad together", Pfenning explains the expansion strategy.
Food traders and producers as customers
In 2004, Pfenning generated a turnover of 155 m euros, including about 100 m euros through logistics for perishables. In total, Pfenning is present at 35 locations in Europe and has a fleet of 815 trucks. The customers of the Viernheim-based company include well-known German grocers, but also manufacturers of consumer goods.
Lebensmittelzeitung understands that Rewe is currently active in Romania together with the Penny discount chain. The self-service warehouse company Kaufland and the discounter Plus are planning their entry into the market.
