Milestone for multicube osthessen – pfenning logistics and Nestlé Deutschland Celebrate Foundation Stone Laying in Mecklar Together
The earthworks for the multicube osthessen have been successfully completed and the structural construction phase on the 220,000 m2 site is already in full swing. Following completion in May 2023, logistics services for food manufacturer Nestlé Deutschland will be carried out at the logistics center. In addition, the multicube osthessen will meet the highest sustainability standards.

The pfenning Group, a family-owned contract logistics service provider, marked the completion of the earthworks for the multicube osthessen with a symbolic foundation stone laying at the construction site in Mecklar, heralding the next phase of the extensive project development.
On a site of 220,000 m2, the multicube osthessen is being built in two construction phases based on the proprietary real estate concept developed by pfenning logistics. The eleven planned hall modules are suitable for storage between 14° and 18° Celsius, making them particularly well-suited for customers in the food, consumer goods and pharmaceutical sectors. pfenning logistics has already secured Nestlé as the anchor tenant of the multicube osthessen. To meet the high requirements of these target industries, the logistics center will be implemented in accordance with GDP (Good Distribution Practice) storage requirements, BIO according to VO (EU), and IFS Food certifications (International Featured Standards).
From the outset, pfenning logistics has placed great importance on minimizing the impact on local flora and fauna. The temperature control of the building will be ensured by modern air-source heat pumps, which, like the rest of the facility’s systems, are intended to be powered by locally produced electricity – securing the company’s future independence from gas. In addition, climate-friendly materials are being used in construction. With these measures, the multicube osthessen makes an important contribution to reducing CO2 emissions and is set to achieve certification to the highest standard of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).

The Mayor of the municipality of Ludwigsau commented on the progress of the project at the foundation stone laying: “We appreciate the good cooperation with pfenning logistics so far and are pleased that the two projects multicube osthessen and freshcube osthessen will create 300 new jobs and positive settlement effects in the region.”

Present at the foundation stone laying were the Mayor of the municipality of Ludwigsau Winfried Hagemann, representatives of Nestlé, general contractor Kleb, architectural firm Krüger Consult, and pfenning logistics.
