pfenning logistics and HFL celebrate symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the freshcube osthessen
Representatives of pfenning logistics and Herbst Frischelogistik, along with the Mayor of Bad Hersfeld, celebrated the start of construction. The temperature-controlled logistics centre with customisable temperature management creates additional jobs in the field of fresh goods logistics and is targeting DGNB Platinum certification.
Bad Hersfeld, 14 July 2022
The pfenning Group, a family-owned contract logistics service provider, marked the start of construction of the freshcube osthessen in Bad Hersfeld with a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony. In addition to representatives of the pfenning Group and HFL Herbst Frischelogistik, Thomas Fehling, Mayor of the district town of Bad Hersfeld, was also in attendance.
The logistics property for fresh goods logistics will be built on a total area of just under 40,000 m². Of this, 12,000 m² will be dedicated to temperature-controlled, modern storage space, with an additional 1,100 m² for social areas and office space. Under the roof of the freshcube osthessen, pfenning logistics offers a flexible warehousing concept for individual usage requirements, with the ability to serve different temperature zones and ensure an unbroken cold chain. The targeted GDP (Good Distribution Practice) certification will enable the company to guarantee compliance with the highest quality standards in the handling of medicines and pharmaceuticals along the supply chain, particularly for customers in the pharmaceutical sector.
In the construction and operation of its logistics properties, pfenning logistics consistently implements a comprehensive sustainability concept to reduce the CO2 emissions of both the property and logistics processes. As with all its projects, the company is pursuing the Platinum certificate from the DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council). In doing so, the company contributes to the sustainability strategies of its customers and supports them in reducing CO2 emissions along the entire value chain. This is achieved in particular through the infrastructurally favourable location in the East Hesse logistics region. As a transport hub, Bad Hersfeld enables savings in empty kilometres, which has a positive impact on customers’ transport footprint. In addition, a photovoltaic system is planned to generate climate-friendly electricity for the property.
Thomas Fehling, Mayor of the district town of Bad Hersfeld, affirms: “Due to the proximity to the motorway, there were some tricky challenges to solve and external hurdles to overcome, which we tackled together. With pfenning logistics’ project development and the new jobs it creates, we are strengthening the region economically and maintaining the successful relationship with Herbst Frischelogistik. Forward-looking concepts with an awareness of sustainability are welcome in Bad Hersfeld.”
Friedbert Herbst, Managing Director of HFL Herbst Frischelogistik, emphasises: “The collaborative partnership with the municipality and Mayor Fehling plays an important role in realising the project. We look forward to continuing to strengthen this in the future. Thanks to the pfenning Group, we can implement the highest quality standards at the site, combined with the existing HFL expertise. We are delighted to have reached another milestone with the freshcube osthessen and our future company headquarters, and to continue offering our customers the professional service they are accustomed to.”
Martin Königstein, Managing Director of pfenning logistics, adds: “pfenning logistics and HFL have created the framework conditions for long-term joint growth in the region. The new freshcube in Bad Hersfeld is the result of our trusting partnership since 2019. In particular, we want to continue achieving valuable synergies in the areas of pharmaceutical and fresh goods logistics.”
With the construction of the freshcube osthessen in Bad Hersfeld and the multicube osthessen in the neighbouring municipality of Mecklar, pfenning logistics is advancing its nationwide expansion. With these new developments, the Heddesheim-based company is responding to increased volatility in consumer behaviour, order peaks and shorter ordering lead times.
