First brownfield multicube near Berlin: pfenning logistics develops a logistics center in Herzfelde

The multi-user site is suitable for a wide range of industries and is located in the heart of a thriving economic region. A rooftop photovoltaic system is also planned.

Heddesheim, 23 November 2022

The pfenning Group, a family-owned contract logistics service provider, has commenced construction activities for the multicube berlin in Herzfelde, a district of Rüdersdorf. On a plot of 40,000 m2, the existing property will be extended and developed in line with the multicube real estate concept. The site is located directly on the federal road B1, with excellent transport links to the motorways A10 (Berlin Ring Road) and A12, which provides a direct connection to Poland. Herzfelde is one of Germany’s emerging economic regions, not least due to the establishment of the Tesla Gigafactory in Grünheide, just ten kilometres away.

pfenning logistics, as a full-service contract logistics provider, specialises in six core industries for which tailored logistics services are delivered at the multicube locations. The multicube berlin will have a usable area of 20,000 m2, of which 1,200 m2 will be mezzanine space and 800 m2 will be office and social areas. The property will have a clear height of 14 m, six truck loading bays and will offer space for 20,000 pallet spaces as well as block storage on a further 7,000 m2 of hall space. Thanks to its design as a multi-user site, capacities are utilised flexibly and in line with demand, which helps to reduce costs. pfenning logistics handles all planning and operations in-house, ensuring a high degree of individualisation in the logistics concept.

The multicube berlin is suitable for customers from various industries, such as industrial and automotive, and is equipped with specialised technical equipment, for example for moving heavy loads. Customers from the retail, pharma and FMCG sectors also benefit from the flexibility of the multicube concept. Cooling can be retrofitted if required for temperature-controlled goods. pfenning logistics is implementing a comprehensive catalogue of sustainability measures with the multicube berlin, meeting the KfW Efficiency House 55 standard. This includes the installation of a large-scale photovoltaic system to generate climate-friendly electricity. As the site is a brownfield development, land consumption and soil sealing can be reduced.

“We are very grateful to be able to cooperate so successfully with the municipality. With the multicube berlin, we can provide our customers with state-of-the-art facilities in an excellent location, managed in an extremely sustainable way. In doing so, we are creating long-term jobs in the region and contributing to its economic strength,” emphasises Torsten Radszuweit, Head of Central Purchasing and Real Estate at the pfenning Group.
