  • Certification of multicube sites in accordance with GDP, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, IFS and SQAS standards

Heddesheim, 8 December 2022

The pfenning Group, a family-owned contract logistics service provider, has once again achieved recertification for its existing properties in accordance with GDP, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 as well as IFS and SQAS. For the Heddesheim site, the company has received its first-ever certification for the storage of organic food. In addition, the multicube osthessen in Mecklar is set to operate on a climate-neutral basis in the future.

Each year, the existing certificates at the pfenning logistics sites are subject to an audit. As part of the annual GDP surveillance audit, it is reviewed whether good distribution practices in handling human medicines – such as compliance with the required temperature ranges – continue to be ensured. This covers not only technical safety and hygiene requirements, but also the training of employees.

In order to implement its own sustainability strategy and comprehensive measures for climate protection, pfenning logistics is also targeting climate neutrality for its current property development, the multicube osthessen in Mecklar. The temperature control of the building plays a key role in this. Thanks to modern air-to-air water heat pumps, a constant temperature can be maintained and independence from fossil fuels such as gas can be achieved. A photovoltaic system will be installed on the roof to generate climate-friendly electricity. With these measures, pfenning logistics aims to obtain the Platinum certificate from the DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council).

Martin Königstein, Managing Director of pfenning logistics, highlights the particular importance of the targeted climate neutrality: “A key component of our strategy and a contribution to meeting EU and national targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions is ensuring that our logistics properties have very low energy requirements, ideally covered by renewable energies.”

In addition, pfenning logistics is pursuing further certifications for the development of the multicube osthessen in Mecklar to guarantee the quality requirements of the respective products and processes. “Our customers’ requirements are becoming more complex, consumer behaviour is changing, and new standards and regulations are coming into force. Through the regular auditing of our services, we ensure – both externally and internally – that the highest quality standards are maintained,” comments Martin Königstein.

The multicube osthessen is scheduled to be completed and commissioned in May 2023 as planned.
