Green warehouse logistics - for the sake of the environment.
Having the issue of sustainability firmly anchored in modern logistics has long since ceased to be a “nice-to-have”. Taking ecological and economic factors into account is the fundamental basis for ensuring the long-term success of any company. Sustainable logistics means much more than simply reducing emissions; it includes in particular the optimization of supply chains and the efficient use of resources. In short, the implementation of environmentally friendly logistics solutions is more important than ever. For companies, sustainability is no longer just about contributing to environmental protection. It is about increasing efficiency and, above all, ensuring competitiveness. Today and in the future. However, ensuring sustainability often comes at a high price. Additional energy costs, acquisition costs for vehicles with alternative drive technologies or investment in sustainable building materials are just some of the costs that are ultimately decisive in a cost calculation. With our energy-efficient technologies, state-of-the-art logistics centers and alternative transport solutions, we ensure that our cost structure is always optimized. In addition, we reduce our own energy consumption and can also reduce our environmental impact in the long term. Our multicube concept has already won countless sustainability awards such as the DGNB Platinum certification or the LOGIX Award for many years. What makes these logistics centers so special? Full-surface rooftop solar systems, excellent insulation and environmentally friendly building materials ensure that we can provide low-CO2 storage at the majority of our locations. These features are the standard for all other new pfenning Group buildings.
Green electricity made by pfenning
- Rooftop solar systems produce green electricity
- Own use to cover the electricity demand
- Surplus electricity is fed into the grid
- 100% green energy
Certified sustainability
- DGNB Platinum = highest sustainability award for buildings for quality in a total of six subject areas: Ecology, economy, socioculture, technology, processes and location
- LOGIX Award = Award for outstanding logistics properties that meet the requirements of users and investors to a high degree and are characterized by urban development, ecological and social aspects
- DIN ISO 14001 = internationally recognized basis for environmental management systems to improve environmental performance
- DIN EN 16258 = European standard that regulates the declaration of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions
Sustainable transportation solutions
The transportation of goods is one of the biggest causes of CO2 emissions worldwide. Road transport, especially heavy goods vehicles, plays a decisive role in this. These emissions pollute our environment and make a decisive contribution to climate change. We are therefore increasingly focusing on alternative drive systems for our vehicles in order to reduce our CO2 emissions. With the comprehensive use of telematics, we also ensure that truck utilization is optimized and empty runs are avoided. We also have driving trainers and driver mentors who sensitize our colleagues to environmentally friendly driving and regularly carry out further training measures.
Did you know?
The multicubes rhein-neckar, rheinhessen and osthessen are among the top 50 logistics buildings in Germany to have been awarded the DGNB Platinum certificate. The multicube rhine-neckar has an overall compliance rate of 88.7%, with the other two multicubes just behind at 83.6% (east Hesse) and 83.5% (rhine Hesse).

Advantages of sustainable logistics
Sustainable logistics offers a wide range of benefits that have a positive impact on the environment, the economy and society. In addition to environmental protection, tangible cost savings, increased brand value and an improved image, a sustainable logistics approach expands access to other markets and strengthens the resilience of any company.
- Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through optimized warehousing, more efficient route planning and alternative drive technologies
- Lower energy costs thanks to efficient routes and the use of alternative drives
- Positive perception among customers, investors and stakeholders
- Competitive advantage through sustainable business practices
- Meeting the requirements of markets that define sustainability as a prerequisite for access to their products or services
- Job creation in the green economy
- Improved working conditions and safety for employees
- Better prepared for climate change and environmental impacts
- Reduced dependence on limited resources
Brownfield - a second chance for revitalization
A brownfield site is an area on which old industrial or commercial facilities are located that can be revitalized for a second use. On the other hand, there is the so-called greenfield, i.e. previously unused space “on a greenfield site” that can be developed for commercial construction. While our first multicubes were classic greenfield projects, the use of brownfield sites is increasingly coming to the fore for us. Due to their often central location, these facilities are better developed in terms of infrastructure and therefore more accessible for employees. In addition, development and project lead times are generally much shorter, which means that decisions can be made more quickly. The multicube berlin will be our first brownfield multicube when it is completed in 2024. The existing building, where powder coating and welding work used to take place, has been upgraded and expanded to include a modern multicube. The logistics center even achieved the KfW55 standard, which actually comes from the area of private house construction and certifies particular environmental efficiency. More than ever, the past and the future are coming together at the Herzfelde site. The development of brownfield facilities will also play a central role in the decision-making process for future construction projects.
